Professionals must navigate increasingly constrained cities: harder parking, congestion, rising energy costs and tighter environmental requirements.

For many missions, the challenge is not to carry more, but to carry with the right format.

Classic diesel van.

  • Vehicle often oversized
  • Stuck in traffic
  • Limited delivery zones and parking
  • High operating costs and fuel consumption
  • Manufacturing emissions: Approx. 10.5 T CO₂e
  • Usage emissions: Approx. 140gCO₂e/km
  • Available capacity of 3000L* but rarely used at 100%

* Selon une étude TfL menée à Londres, 39 % des utilitaires observés sont remplis à moins d'un quart. Sur une capacité de 3000 L, cela représente moins de 750 L réellement occupés.

Avantages

Transport tools, parcels and equipment with the agility of a two-wheeler and the capacity of a small utility vehicle.

For too long, we accepted the idea that a large vehicle was needed to transport efficiently.

Yet, many professional journeys require neither 2 tonnes of metal, nor a half-empty van, nor high operating costs.

CARGOLAB was born to fill this forgotten gap: loads too heavy for a cargo bike, but too light to justify a van.

An electric cargo motorcycle, agile, modular and repairable, designed to carry 550 litres and 120 kg with minimum mass and maximum utility.

The Cargo Moto

Modular and adaptable, the cargo motorcycle adjusts to every mission: closed box, open load, specific racks or trade accessories.

Designed for intensive use, it supports daily operations with less mass, lower operating costs and more freedom than a conventional van.

CARGOLAB combines the agility of a two-wheeler, the utility of a cargo vehicle and a capacity designed for professionals.

A story born in the field.

CARGOLAB was born from a simple observation: many professional journeys are short, repetitive and made with vehicles too heavy for the actual use.

Founder of the project, Raphaël Gérard holds a PhD in mechanical engineering and specialises in lightweight structures. A daily cargo bike user in Montpellier, his dual experience — technical and practical — raised a question: how to transport efficiently, without the constraints of a van?

Selected as part of the ADEME eXtrême Défi, the project confirms its relevance: developing lighter, more efficient mobility better suited to real-world use.

CARGOLAB is built in the city, for those who work in it.
